This is the second single serve coffee maker I have used. The first coffee maker was the Keurig Platinum . I will do a little comparison between the two coffee makers. To begin I will discuss the unboxing of the Bunn. Also as a comparison I drink my coffee black with no added sugar or milk so my opinions are based solely on the coffee flavor.
The Bunn coffee maker was easy to unbox. The Bunn came with a pack of 12 different pods, which gives the user a plethora of choices right out of the box. Columbian, French Roast, Donut Shop coffee were a few of the coffee flavors. There were also tea pods contained in the box. I followed the instructions in the quick start manual. The Bunn water tank must be heated before the brewer will make coffee/tea. The guide tells the user exactly how to get the Bunn ready to brew coffee. The instructions are easy to follow and the Bunn was ready to brew coffee within five minutes of opening the package. The water tank can be filled with 4 ounces up to 14 ounces. This is similar to picking the cup size with a Keurig coffee maker. The water tank must be filled each time a cup of coffee is brewed, but it does not take much time to refill the water tank.
I brewed a regular cup of coffee with the Community coffee blend and the aroma filled the house. I was excited to try the coffee after the great aroma from the Bunn. The cup of coffee had as much flavor as the Keurig and maybe a little more flavor. I also tried the pulse function the French Roast contained in the package. The press of a button will turn on the pulse function; it makes the coffee stronger by changing the amount of water flowing over the coffee at a given time. At the end of the pulse function, it looked like a cappuccino on the top because it made the coffee look frothy. The coffee was much stronger using the pulse function.
A small comparison between the Keurig and Bunn.
Size: The Bunn is smaller and not as wide as the Keurig. The Bunn also has a stainless steel backdrop that has a very clean finish.
Water tank: The water tank on the Keurig is bigger than the Bunn water tank. The Keurig holds the water in a reservoir tank and will pull the water from the tank to brew the coffee. The user only has to fill the Keurig once and can brew several cups of coffee without the need to refill the tank. The Bunn must be refilled after each cup of coffee brewed. This could be a little troublesome for a person in a rush to make two cups of coffee.
Cup of Coffee: The Bunn uses a coffee pod unlike the Keurig that uses a k-cup. Both machines brew a good cup of coffee. I liked the Bunn pulse function for the stronger cup of coffee. The Bunn can be manipulated to make a stronger or weaker cup of coffee depending on the amount of water placed in the water tank.
Machine: My Keurig has a problem of shutting off after a cup of coffee is brewed. The machine will automatically cut off for no apparent reason. I have not had that trouble with the Bunn.
I would recommend this machine over the Keurig for the simple fact that the Bunn does everything as well as the Keurig and does not shut off after brewing a cup of coffee.
